Ohio Turnpike and Diamond Communications Extend Wireless and 5G Infrastructure Management Agreement and Announce Addition of Fiber Management Services

Berea, Ohio, May 4, 2021 — The Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission and Diamond Communications today announced a 5-year extension to their tower management agreement originally signed in 2015. Under the extension, Diamond will continue to market the Commission’s communication towers, buildings, light poles, and other structures for the installation of wireless and 5G carrier equipment through the end of 2025.

In addition, Diamond will now work with telecommunications companies to extend and expand their agreements with the Commission that govern fiber optic installations on Commission owned land and right-of-way. Diamond will market the Commission’s right-of-way to additional telecommunications companies seeking to install new fiber optic cable on Commission-controlled land.

Diamond and the Commission also announce the completion of a 185-foot self-support wireless communications tower located at the Commission’s Vermillion Valley Service Plaza located at Mile Post 139.5 in Amherst, Ohio. The new tower is available immediately for collocation.

“Since January 2015, Diamond has provided reliable brokerage and property management services for the Commission. Their team has consistently delivered results, including the collaborative development of pre-negotiated license and lease agreements, completion of new colocation agreements, and successful negotiation of numerous amendments or extensions to existing agreements. It makes sound business sense for the Commission to extend this arrangement with Diamond, and we will continue to look to their team for their expertise related to wireless, 5G, fiber optic cable, and other emergent communication technology,” said OTIC Executive Director Ferzan M. Ahmed, P.E.

“We are delighted to extend our successful relationship with the Ohio Turnpike,” said Daniel Turnpaugh, Diamond’s Vice President of Site Management. “The team at the Ohio Turnpike has been terrific to work with and we look forward to the expansion of our partnership allowing us to do what we do best – providing advanced wireless infrastructure solutions to the wireless carrier community. With the Ohio Turnpike’s towers and real estate opened up for both new wireless and fiber builds, we will continue to provide enhanced wireless services to travelers along the Ohio Turnpike and the nearby communities in northern Ohio.”

The Ohio Turnpike is a 241-mile toll road offering one of the safest, best and most convenient routes for motorists to reach east/west destinations along the northern corridor of Ohio. The Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission provides excellent customer service and amenities to meet travelers’ wants and needs, including state-of-the-art service plazas, a variety of restaurant choices, and routine maintenance for a smooth, pleasant trip.
